A 25-year-old software engineer from Kalyaninagar in Pune told the police that she was surfing the internet to book a bottle of wine when she came across a website. Later she was duped almost Rs. 1 lakh. She called on the mobile phone number displayed on the website and called it to initiate the booking process. The person who picked up her call convinced her to reveal her debit card details and then asked her to transfer Rs 900 to book the order. Later the person called back and claimed that the money had not been received and he sent her a QR code to transfer money via UPI. She transferred the money without checking the amount mentioned in the QR code which was Rs 96902 instead of Rs 900.  

Inspector (crime) Uttam Chakre of the Yerawada police is investigating the case.
